Q. I keep hearing about the "coverage gap" in states that are not expanding Medicaid. Can you explain what that means and who it affects? According to Kaiser Family Foundation data, there are about 2.2 million people in the coverage gap across 11 states as of 2022 (this will drop to 10 states as of mid-2023, when South Dakota expands Medicaid eligibility). They aren't eligible for Medicaid, nor are they eligible for premium subsidies in the exchange.
